I was born on July 8th 1992 to Daniel and Theresa Rass. I grew up in the small town of Brussels WI which is near Sturgeon Bay in Door County WI. I have two older sisters, Erin and Calyn. I started playing fiddle when I was seven. I took classical lessons for about six months before I switched over to Bluegrass, I stopped taking lessons after that and taught myself with the help of my Father. I enjoy singing too. I like singing harmonies and lead with the band. I like to perform. I enjoy every minute I’m on and off the stage. I like meeting and greeting the fans.
I love what I do, and I thank God I can do this. Bluegrass is the music I grew up on, my Dad was in County Bands I cant even remember how long, though he switched over to bluegrass and I've been loving this music since my first festival.
My first bluegrass band I've seen live I believe was a group called "The Rarely Herd" I grew up listening to them and their still one of my favorites!
Some of my other favorites bluegrass groups are: Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Dailey and Vincent, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Special Consensus, Barry Scott and Second Wind, The Grascals, and so many more! It would take me years to get everyone listed here!
People who inspire me to play bluegrass and fiddle: Besides all the bands I've listed and the many others, I would have to say my Dad is a big inspiration to me, I hear him play and I want to play music, One day I want to play like him. And of course I thank God for giving me this blessing. But to list some others, I like: (Just to name a few) Bobby Hicks, Buddy Spicher, Molly Cherryholmes, Adam Haynes, Nicky Sanders, Alison Kruass, Hunter Barry, Jimmy Mattingly, Johnny Gimble, Andy Leftwich, Jim Vancleve and the list could go on for ages!
I love every moment my fingers touch those strings or I open my mouth to sing, it's never easy but it's always worth it. I love the stories you can tell from this kind of music, the history, it really is amazing. To me anyone who says their not a fan of bluegrass has never heard the real stuff before, or actually listened to it. This music is the history of our lives, of our country. And I love every minute, every measure, and every note of it!
